BAGNO DI ROMAGNA e SAN PIERO IN BAGNO

      According to a legend Agnese, daughter of a noble family from Sarsina, was disowned and sentenced to death, because she believed in Christian faith, but she was saved thanks to the executioner mercy.
So she started a long period of wandering in wood land within her dog, catching a skin illness, that recovered miraculously during a bath in a sourcing water discovered by the dog.
On the contrary, the history told us that during the domination by Florence, Bagno became famous as a tourist and thermal resort for many noble families form Toscana, as for example De Medici family.
Very beautiful to visit is the main square in which lies the Santa Maria Assunta abbey ( Romanic origins) , and also the Capitani Palace with the families coat of arms which governed the lands of Bagno valley. Picturesque are the narrow alleys starting from the main square.
Not far from the centre lies the Thermal Bath, with its waters rich of curative properties.
Bicarbonate-alkaline-sulphurous mineral water gushes out with a temperature of 45° in the inner of the thermal spa and this water is indispensable for to recover skin illness. Other waters, not less important, are utilized to recover respiratory and auditive system. But also mud bath, bathes, natural caves, herb therapy and bio-energetic care complete the really important inner and physic wellness of everybody.
      San Piero in Bagno, chief town of Bagno in which lies the town council palace was subjected for many years by Florence becoming a very important economic and commercial place.
This influence is today evident in the beautiful examples of private architecture you can admire in Allende square. By transferring the town counicil from Bagno to San Piero, the inhabitants of Bagno started a big protest movement and their fights was stopped only with an ordinance of King Vittorio Emanuele. Not far from the main square we find the San Pietro in Vincoli church built in 1400 and restored during the end of 1800.
The city surrounded by fascinating lands, is rich of trekking ways frequented by a lot of tourists.
To visit, in a quiet and wonderful place ,the Santuario della Madonna di Corzano , which preserves in the inner a sweet and beautiful fresco ( XV century), representing the "Madonna con bambino and Santa Caterina d'Alessandria".
The country of Poggio alla Lastra , on the border of Foreste Casentinesi Natural Park is a little village with a suggestive view.
Not far form the centre of San Piero lies the lake of Aquapartita a natural wonderful place to spend some holidays.
