GALEATA

      During the III century Galeata was invaded by Romans and in the first century after Christ subjected by Rome.
The name Mevaniola, that come from the indigenous of Umbria , was not changed by Romans.
During the barbarian invasions and fights obligated populations to leave for neighbouring territories.
On Mevaniola ruins, in V century, were built Galeata , Sant'Ellero Abbey, and Teodorico's palace.
Later Galeata become independent but during the XV century it was owned by Florence.
You can find evidence of it visiting the old town centre, with its arcades along the old streets and by using sandstone.
The Civic Museum Mambriniis located in Palazzo Pretorio in which you can see the archaeological finds of Mevaniola and Teodorico's palace whose ruins were discovered during the archaeological excavations in 1945-
Sant'Ellero Abbey lies a Kilometres far from Galeata Centre. This Abbey is dedicated to Sant'Ellero (476-558 A.C.)and in the crypt you can visit the Holy marble sarcophagus.
      Two Kilometres far from Galeata you reach Pianetto: a wonderful and quiet place. Here you can admire the medieval Rocca , projected Bartolomeo Ammannati a famous sculptor and architect in Florence, and the Pieve di Santa Maria dei Miracoli built in 1497 by Francesco di Gregorio.
