Where Accerrata, Tramazzo, and Ibola rivers join tougher creating Marzeno river, rises Modigliana village. Many are the prehistoric and protohistoric archaeological finds to testify Modigliana ancients origins. These finds are conserved in the Museum dedicated to Don Giovanni Verità who was a famous priest and patriot from Modigliana.
The village was property of Conti Guidi family and today are still visible traces of this dynasty.
The fortress, called "Roccaccia" offers, after its collapse in 1918, a spectacular view. The main entrance to the castle was composed by a defence disposed in semicircle, today called " La tribuna", by two tower bells and by a niche in which is conserved a statue of the Virgin Mary.
Really interesting is the medieval Pretorio square, probably one of the most beautiful of the whole province. To visit are also the Chiesetta della Madonna del cantone Church and the Don Giovanni Verità Church, in which inner are conserved four lunettes by Silvestro Lega who here was born in 1826.
By visiting Modigliana it also possible to walk on the beautiful and restored San Donato bridge, called "della Signoria".
According to a legend during full moon nights a charming madam with white dresses crosses this bridge riding an horse and suddenly she disappears.
Not far form the village lies the Capuccini monastery. It was built in 1561 and from the 1755 it is the site of the "Accademia degli Incamminati".
Festivals take part in Modigliana during the whole year. During the Christmas days, for example, the "Zoc ed Nadel" festival where a bon fire burns till the end of the year, or the "Sangiovese" one, in Autumn, where you can taste and buy the wines of local production.
