CASTIGLIONE DEI PEPOLI

      The name Castiglione dei pepoli comes from a celtic word "gat" meaning forest. All around CdP you can find fir-wood, chestnut-wood, and also beech ones.
Castiglione dei pepoli was subjected by Galli Boi, than by Romans, in the XI century by Mtilde di Canossa and later by " Conti Alberti di Prato". The name "dei Pepoli" was added only when Castiglione became property of Taddeo dei Pepoli.
This little country lies between Florence and Bologna, on monte Gatta, about 700 meters altitude.
Castiglione area is rich of wood highlands on south, meanwhile in the northern one you can admire a hilly complete different from the south one.
In main square of Castiglione you can the elegant Pepoli palace and also the clock tower.
      Not far from Castiglione dei pepoli you can visit an other little country "Roncobilaccio" and its shrine Beata Vergine di Boccardino, XVIII century.
