Sarsina is an ancient village built by "umbri". It was a rich country during the Romans thanks to the big wood production and for a rich sheep farming.
It was Episcopal site, and for this reason the beauty of its monuments was not destroyed after the crack of the Romans.
Till the 1859 it was property of the Pope and later of the Italian Reign.
In 1964 it absorbed also the Sorbano village , reaching a extension of 100 Kmq including in its territories the valley of Borello river, of Savio river and Monte Rocchetta (m.800).
The economy in Sarsina that in the past was based especially in agriculture, was modified during the sixties with the increasing of the industries.
Really interesting to visit is the National Archaeological Museum which conserves in its inners finds that testify the importance of Sarsina during the Romans.
With the recently works of resort, today it is possible to visit the "mausoleo di Rufo" ( I century, pyramidal cusp, high about 13 meters).
Not less important to see are, the mosaic called "The triumph of Dionisio" (II century), the group of the statues that belonged to the important sanctuary of the Oriental Divinities, and also the tombs with its finds.
Really beautiful is the Cathedral of the X century, perhaps one of the most beautiful of Romagna. It is a meeting point for many pilgrims to obtain form priests the benediction with the "Catena di San Vicinio", a iron collar of the Holy , first bishop of Sarsina, who was considered an exorcist.
Always in Sarsina we find the Muesum "Diocesano di arte Sacra" called the "casa di Plauto", an old building with architectonical elements of the roman period, perhaps a tower, a wall and a monument dedicated to Tito Maccio Plauto.
To see not far from Sarsina, in Ranchio village, a very interesting natural phenomenon of erosion by rivers the only one in Romagna, and also the Quarto lake and the medieval village Ranchio.
The most important event in Sarsina is certainly the series of outside plays that takes part every years, during July and August. The plays, dedicated to Tito Maccio Plauto the biggest Latin playwright who was born in Sarsina (250 a.C.-184 a.C.), consists to play comedies by Plauto and other classic comedies.
