Some studious men maintain that Sogliano origins come from Solonati people.
In Sogliano area were built many castles starting from XI century to XII one, as Montegelli, Rontagnano, Savignano di Rigo, Pietra dell'Uso. Montepetra and Strgara.
All these castles had an independent autonomy from the castle of Sogliano.
In 1186 Malatesta family conquered these territories starting the dynasty of Malatesta from Sogliano. In 1312 Malatesta from Rinini tried to submit Sogliano starting a fight against Malatesta from Sogliaono, that stopped only about XV century when Sogliano became property of the gentleman Giovanni III who governed the village since 1442, date of his death.
Malatesta family from Sogliano dominated the village, rebuilding the castle since 1640 when the Papal State took away to the family all the rights to govern the village.
Unfortunately the caslte is today only a ruin.
To visit is the Town Council Palace, the S. Lorenzo Church ( X century) complety rebuilt between 1700 and 1800 and restored in our century. Built in the second half of 1600 the oratory " del Suffragio" conserves in it inner a very interesting Christ Crucified and a fresco by Guercino. Near the Church rises the Civic Tower built in 1867.
Purtroppo del castello ci rimangono oggi solo poche rovine.
To visit is also Montefitti, a medieval village where since many century are produced the " teglie" a baking -tin to cook Piadina Romgnola.
An other typical product of Sogliano is the formaggio di fossa. This cheese is put in a cave for the maturing period and this particular place give to it a particular taste, totally different from the origin one.
