River Rabbi has its source in Mount Falco, flows along Castel dell'Alpe and it crosses the village of Premilcuore. It meets the course of river Fosso Fiumicello and further down hill it meets river Fontanella (a torrent that flows down Mount Fratta); eventually, close to Forlì, it becomes a tributary of river Montone.
This stretch of the Apennines is quite mild it is not dominated by badlands, the typical rocky formation of Romagna hills.
Yet at lower heights there are signs of sandstone, clay and limestone which at greater heights become a monotonous sedimentary formation of marly stones.
This valley is different from the rest of Romagna valleys because it lacks of roads: it is crossed by a single state road that links Premilcuore and San Godenzo; later on, it leaves the course of river Rabbi and follows the valley of a tributary, river Fosso delle Piastrelle.
Due to the lack of roads and urban settlements, this valley has been colonised later than the other valleys and abandoned before the others.
But this has better preserved the nature of its soil: for example, here are many groves of Turkey oaks that are an extinct species anywhere else in Romagna.
The villages of Premilcuore and Predappio belong to the valley of river Rabbi.
Premilcuore is surrounded by impressing peaks and beautiful woods, it is included in the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park, and it is the ideal resort for nature and tranquillity lovers.
Predappio was founded in 1925 beneath the antique settlement of Predappio Alta, and is well renowned for wine production and its agricultural products.
